Crew Leader, Forestry 

$27.39 - $30.45/hour 

Reporting to the Parks Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing and maintaining Town wide urban forest inventories and perform various arboriculture tasks including tree pruning, removal, inspections of street trees, woodlots and green spaces, planting and diagnosis of pests and disease; operates various equipment, provides advice and schedules arboriculture activities related to street trees; data collection and record keeping; manages Town woodlots in compliance with the Woodlands Management Plan, assists in updating and recommends revisions to the Woodland management Plan in consultation with external consultants; recommends action plans for severe pest infestations, prepares public notices and informational materials; provides site supervision of contract forestry services; assists in the tender process, researches grants and assists in the preparation of the operational budget. 

To be considered for this position, you will possess a College Diploma in Forestry, Arboriculture or a related discipline as well as International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certification, Integrated Pest Management Accreditation (IMP), Landscape and Forestry Pesticide License, coupled with a minimum of five years of related urban forestry/municipal experience; extensive demonstrated knowledge and experience in the planning, development, operation and maintenance of urban forestry services including tree climbing and tree inspections in relation to risk assessment, structural integrity, insect/disease identification, pruning techniques and management. You will have demonstrated experience in urban forestry maintenance and management including supervisory/lead hand experience, preferably in a unionized municipal environment. You will have the ability to interpret engineering and landscaping drawings, aerial photos and GIS maps; working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, arboriculture software programs and tree inventory programs and other related data bases and programs. Great organizational, interpersonal, communication, project management, analytical, and budgeting skills are required for this role. You will possess an Ontario Class "D" Driver's licence, with "Z" air brake endorsement, in good standing; good working knowledge of the OHSA and Highway Traffic Act. You will have the ability to competently operate various equipment related to arboriculture and parks maintenance.
