Roads & Parks Maintenance Department


Job Number: RPM-48-16  

Employment Status: Full-time Permanent  

Position Overview: 

Equipment Operators are responsible for operating motorized vehicles and equipment as well as performing manual labour. The Equipment Operator assists in a variety of tasks related to maintaining roads and parks. Duties also include grass cutting, park maintenance, emptying waste receptacles and assisting with leaf collection and winter control. The successful applicants will become a member of CUPE Local 44.

Responsibilities: 

The Roads and Parks Maintenance department is recruiting for two Equipment Operators.

In addition to the duties as outline above the following is an overview of each position as it relates to the district it will be located within:

The Equipment Operator reporting to the Parks Supervisor (North) will provide a variety of services such as:

  • Equipment and manual services related to repairing and maintaining our city parks, pathways, sidewalks and roadways.
  • Parks maintenance including grass mowing and trimming, turf maintenance, litter picking, washroom cleaning and fall loose leaf collection or mulching.
  • Minor equipment maintenance and completing daily reports as required.
  • Fall Leaf Clean Up/Winter Control
The Equipment Operator reporting to the Supervisor of Playgrounds & Irrigation will provide a variety of services such as:
  • Crane operation for waste removal, emptying parks waste receptacles
  • General parks repair
  • Fall Leaf Clean Up/Winter Control

Requirements: 

The successful candidates will ideally have a high school diploma and demonstrated experience in operating equipment. Additionally, the incumbent must possess a class ‘DZ’ driver’s license with a clean driving record. This position must be available to work shifts and weekends.

Salary Range: 

The rate of pay for this position is $21.74 per hour – 90% of the hourly rate ($24.16) for twelve months. There is a six month probationary period.
