As a Forester Specialist, your duties will include
  • Planting, trimming and removing trees using a variety of climbing equipment and machinery
  • Applying herbicides and pesticides if/when required
  • Investigating public service requests and providing diagnoses, assessments, and recommendations for appropriate tree maintenance
  • Routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment
  • Assessment and selection of location for tree planting on City property
  • Other related duties as required
  • Must possess a 2-year Diploma in a full time Forestry/Arboriculture program, or International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Board Certified Master Arborist certification, or equivalent 2 year Ontario Diploma in the Horticulture Program in the Urban Forestry Option
  • Must have a minimum of 2000 hours (1 year) related experience within the field of Urban Forestry (or equivalent)
  • MOE Land Extermination License
  • MTO "DZ" class driver's license in good standing
  • Proven customer service skills (subject to testing)
  • Chainsaw Training
  • Proven experience in proper care and operation of Arboriculture related equipment, including: chipper, stumper, chipper truck
  • Proficiency in climbing techniques and necessary apparatus (subject to testing)
  • Demonstrated skills in communications and ability to keep accurate records
  • Must be reliable with good attitude and employment record
  • Must be willing to successfully complete a medical examination if required
  • Must be willing to successfully complete required progressional criteria as it relates to this job title
  • Must be prepared to be trained in the operation of all related equipment and work skills
  • Must be able to perform a variety of duties including manual labour
  • Must have an ability to participate as an effective team member
