Urban Forestry Technician

Reporting to the Supervisor of Horticulture, Turf and Forestry Operations, the Urban Forestry Technician will inspect, diagnose and provide recommendations for all municipal tree issues relating to hazards, disease, insects and construction, as well as organize and oversee tree maintenance and tree planting operations. The Technician will work together with the Forestry Division team to provide prompt and professional response to public inquiries and improve efficiencies related to forestry operations and Emerald Ash Borer strategies in the City of Brantford.

Applicants will have successfully completed post-secondary education in Urban Forestry, Arboriculture or equivalent and have two years minimum related work experience in the care and management of the urban forest. ISA Certification is preferred. An understanding of key related legislation and guidelines including the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Pesticide Act is necessary as well as proven customer service skills and experience in responding to public inquiries from a municipal perspective. Proficiency with a variety of computer applications including Microsoft Office, GIS and other software is essential. A valid “G” Ontario driver’s licence in good standing is required. As a condition of employment, candidates must submit a current successful Police Clearance Certificate (dated within the last three months) for approval by the Corporation. Incumbents must also be certified in First Aid and CPR Level C upon commencing employment.

SALARY RANGE: $48,162 - $60,202 per annum (based on a 40 hour work week) plus benefits.
