Description of Position:
Requires an individual who has a Community College diploma in Horticulture/Forestry or Parks and has a minimum of five years related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires knowledge of relevant municipal and provincial legislation (e.g.. Highway Traffic Act, Ontario Provincial Standards, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Environmental Protection Act, Conservation Authorities Act & Regulations and applicable legislative acts and regulations relating to urban forestry/arboriculture operations). Requires the ability to plan, administer, train, supervise and monitor operations to maintain municipal infrastructure including: municipal parks, horticultural and urban forestry operations. Requires the ability to develop, prioritize and forecast expenditures for short and long-term work programs related to municipal infrastructure maintenance activities and ensure that work performance complies with approved performance standards, statutory requirements, municipal by-laws and safe working practices.
Requires the ability to function in a computerized environment including working knowledge of word processing, financial, database and spatial data software. Requires an individual who has a valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license and the ability to obtain a Class ‘D’ License with a ‘Z’ endorsement and must have access to a vehicle to fulfill the duties of the position. May be required from time to time to provide supervision of other Public Works activities (e.g. vacation, sick time etc.). This position requires you to work evenings and weekends on call.
Description of Qualifications:
The candidate must possess proven leadership, team-building and supervisory skills; the ability to effectively coach, motivate, coordinate, assess and measure the work of others; the ability to support and facilitate positive work relationships in a unionized environment. Requires well-developed interpersonal and public relations skills to build effective relationships within the organization and throughout the community. Requires strong communication skills (verbal, written and presentation) to prepare and present reports and recommendations. Requires and individual with demonstrated skills and/or experience in budget and contract management; program planning, development and implementation and project management to successfully manage competing priorities and lead a number of projects at one time. Requires an individual with a creative/innovative focus on service delivery and a commitment to quality service and continuous improvement. An ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) or EUSA Certification would be considered an asset. Candidates must have the ability to perform the physical demands of the position.
Salary Range: $71,653.00 - $78,322.00
