Irrigation TECHNICIAN Workshop


This one-day Irrigation Workshop has been designed specifically for our frontline Parks staff, addressing irrigation issues as they pertain to parks and sports fields. The morning session will take place in-class, with the afternoon session consisting of a number of outdoor demonstrations.


Topics that will be covered:

  • Irrigation Service Spring and Fall
  • Service and Repairs with Demonstartions

  • Irrigation Controls 

  • New technologies - wireless soil monitoring, weather-based control and central control

  • A full afternoon of outdoor onsite demonstrations

    Salary: $22.64 - $26.63 per hour

    PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

    The City of Belleville’s Irrigation Person is responsible for the maintenance, repair and installation of irrigation systems in horticultural areas, sports fields, parks & open space. 

    EDUCATION/SPECIALIZED TRAINING/SKILLS:

    Essential (minimum) qualifications:

    • Grade 12 diploma
    • Successful Completion of  the Irrigation Association, Certified Irrigation Contractor (CIC) and/or  Certified Irrigation Designer – Landscape (CID)
    • A class “D” driver’s license, in good standing
    • Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA) and the pertinent regulations

    Asset (preferred) qualifications:

    • Knowledge and understanding of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
    • Proficiency in computer use and operation (word processing, e-mail, databases, spread sheets)

    WORK EXPERIENCE:

    Essential (minimum) qualifications:

    Individuals will be required to have a minimum three (3) years of work experience in the following:

    • Irrigation system installation and maintenance of residential, commercial, and large area irrigation systems (golf and/or sport fields)
    • Pump specification, installation and repair

    Asset (preferred) qualifications:

    • Equipment Operation, loaders, trucks, trailers, tractors and implements and hand held equipment
    • Irrigation industry Best Practices

    OPA Member: $247.80 per person
    Potential Member: $345.90 per person

Want to host this session? 

For this 1 day session we require a classroom that can accommodate approximately 30 people and has a projector and screen and whiteboard available. The host facility also needs to be within a short distance (preferably walking distance) to an irrigation demo site (preferably a sports field) available to be turned on.

The irrigation site should have readily available:
  • an accessible and view able controller
  • a shut off valve and winterization port
  • accessible valve box or boxes
  • water that can be turned on for testing the system
