Accountable:

1. Implement detailed plans and ensure compliance with council directives, City & Divisional policies, procedures, established practices and maintenance standards regarding program specific requirements.
2. Assess current practices and make recommendations to improve operational efficiencies.
3. Supervise, motivate and train staff, ensuring effective teamwork, high standard of work quality, safety and organizational performance, continuous learning and encourages innovation in others.
4. Recommends to Manager the overall scheduling of projects, maintenance operations, vacation schedules and overtime requests.  Monitors performance and attendance management.  Delivery of progressive discipline and liaises Corporate Labour Relations and makes recommendations to the Manager.
5. Coordinates payroll and timesheets with support staff.
6. Works with Finance and other divisions to manage and coordinate district and city wide purchasing.
7. Coordinates with Human Resources for the recruitment and selection of staff.
8. Liaises with Human Resources to manage workplace injuries, costs and return to work.
9. Participates in the review, area consultation and formulation of policies, performance standards and procedures of parks or technical services operations.  Represents Corporation on assigned committees.
10. Ensures that the Manager is apprised of all issues impacting the efficiency of all district parks and technical services operations.
11. Monitor performance of contractors assigned work within the parks system and ensure compliance with City and Division Polices, procedures, established practices and maintenance standards.
12. Responsible for maintaining fleet and small equipment inventories, coordinating fleet replacement program and monitoring maintenance changes.
13. Monitors and provides analysis of the Work Order Management System.
14. Prepares draft reports, documents and correspondence for Managers approval.
15. Ensures the delivery of quality customer service by investigation internal/external complaints and implementing actions for a satisfactory resolution.
16. Liaise with City officials, members of Council and the public regarding information exchange and responding to inquiries regarding Parks services as required.

Position Requirements:

1. College Diploma in Business Administration, Operations Management, Recreation and Leisure or related field.
2. Five (5) years’ of recent related experience.  Knowledge of Parks Operations (Turf, Horticulture, General Services, Technical Services and Parks Construction)
3. Demonstrated ability to develop, lead and manage personnel and contracted services.  Preference will be given to formal training in management and supervision.
4. Extensive knowledge and application of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and Legislation, the Collective Agreements and related Labour Legislation.  A demonstrated commitment to developing and enhancing a safety culture. 
5. Experience supervising staff in a unionized environment and responding to labour relations issues.
6. The ability to work in a team environment and to function effectively with minimal supervision.
7. Professional, proven customer service, interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
8. Demonstrated time management skills and ability to multi-task within a dynamic environment.
9. Attention to detail, ability to identify efficiencies and good decision making skills.
10. Proficient computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software programs.
11. Possession of a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License.

Salary Range:   $62,519 - $78,148 annually
