Chainsaw Safety Awareness Refresher

OPA requires Chainsaw Card Holders to refresh their knowledge of safe saw techniques every 3 years. This 1 day refresher seminar helps satisfy these requirements.


The course will cover:


  • PPE & legislative requirements 
  • Chainsaw maintenance and sharpening techniques 
  • Safe chainsaw starting and handling practices 
  • Field practices (felling [notching and back cutting], bucking techniques and tools)


Please note the following PPE is required to attend this course: 

  • CSA Approved Type 1 or Type 2 Class C or E helmet (less than 5 years old)
  • Hearing protection (exceeds 85 decimals)
  • Gloves (comfortable fitting leather or composite)
  • Eye protection
  • Safety boots (Green Patch Safety approved with ankle protection - minimum height of 7 eyelets - safety shoes or Blundstones are not acceptable)
  • Full leg chaps or chainsaw pants with UL label that is visible (3000 feet per minute (FPM) or greater)
Prerequisite: Successful completion of the Two Day Chainsaw Safety Training course.


This session is worth .5 credit towards your Parks Practitioner Designation

Want to host this session? 
For this session we require an indoor class room that can accommodate 10 participants and has access to a projector with screen and an outdoor woodlot with trees that can be felled and used to practice cutting techniques. We ask the host facility to provide a Pole saw for the training to review cutting techniques.
